The illness caused by the new virus has claimed at least nine lives in Michigan now, with a Washtenaw County man identified as the ninth victim Sunday, March 22.

It’s been less than two weeks since Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency after the state confirmed its first two cases March 10, though it may feel longer to many.

Schools, libraries, entertainment venues, government offices and many businesses remain closed and large group gatherings remain temporarily banned, while many residents are doing their part to stay inside and practice social distancing.
