History and Awards

  • 2001: With help from the Manders Group, the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA), and the local government, Edgewater Automation opens its first automation integration facility and machine shop in St. Joseph, Michigan, with only five employees. Within the next two decades, the company grows to include more than 200 engineers.

  • 2004: Business is good. Edgewater adds 24,000 square feet to its headquarters in St. Joseph. This is also the third year out of four that Edgewater receives a Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce Award for its support of the local business community.

  • 2006: Edgewater joins the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT).

  • 2007: Continued growth necessitates an additional 15,000 square foot expansion at Edgewater’s St. Joseph facility. In addition to continuing Cornerstone Awards, Edgewater receives the state of Michigan’s 2007 Diversification Celebration Award for its investments and local leadership in alternative energy. This year also marks the first time Edgewater Automation is named to Inc. magazine’s list of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in America. It will return to that list in 2008 and 2012.

  • 2008: MEGA acknowledges Edgewater’s stellar growth with a recognition award.

  • 2010: Edgewater is named one the “Top 50 Companies to Watch” by the state of Michigan.

  • 2011: Edgewater Automation joins Rockwell Automation’s Partner Network OEM program based on its success in utilizing Rockwell PLC and control systems at the machine/equipment level.

  • 2012: A new 10,000 square foot facility is added in St. Joseph to house Edgewater Development.

  • 2013: Edgewater adds another 5,000 square feet to its growing headquarters in St. Joseph and joins the Robotic Industries Association (RIA), North America’s leading trade association and standards development organization for robotics.

  • 2014: To better serve the automotive and related industries in the Southeast, Edgewater Automation opens a 45,000 square foot design, manufacturing, and integration facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina. At the same time, Edgewater opens a new 44,000 square foot facility in Buchanan, Michigan, to house Edgewater Manufacturing. Finally, Edgewater receives a Technology Award from Delphi Automotive PLC.

  • 2015: Edgewater proudly announces that it has achieved ISO 9001:2015 status, based on a number of quality management principles, including a strong customer focus, the motivation of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement.

  • 2018: Edgewater production capacity reaches 200,000 square feet with the addition of 45,000 more square feet at Edgewater Manufacturing in Buchanan. Edgewater also achieves certified robot integrator (CRI) status from RIA.

  • 2019: FANUC names Edgewater a Level III authorized system integrator (ASI), making it easier for Edgewater customers to participate in FANUC training, warranty, and sales programs. Machine vision leader Cognex acknowledges Edgewater as a certified systems integrator (CSI). Edgewater achieves UL508 certification in St Joseph, Michigan.

  • 2020: Edgewater adds a third Automation design, manufacturing, and integration facility in Buchanan, Michigan.
